Internet Marketing: Tips for Beginners

Internet Marketing for Beginners

At first, Internet Marketing for beginners can feel overwhelming. Where do I start? How much do I need to know before getting started? How fast can I see results? How much do I need to spend on marketing? The simple truth is that you can literally spend countless hours and dollars training. And if you never take action, it will end up being a complete waste of time and money. There is no fool proof way to get going here, but there are plenty of foolish ways to go about it.

Let's keep is simple. Let's get started in the most efficient manner we can. Here a few key strategies to help beginners get going in Internet Marketing:
  • Know your target audience. Before going out and creating web pages, calling all you friends, or hiring outside help, identify your target customer or client. Identify your ideal target customer. What personality traits do they have, what's their income level, where to they shop, work, or append their free time? What is their life style, their likes and dislikes? What is their problem to which you are offering a solution? Once you are intimately familiar with your target customer you will be able to cater to them directly in your web and ad copy, and focus your marketing to they will see it.

  • Write copy that targets your ideal customer. When creating web copy and ad copy, be direct. Show your audience that you understand them, you understand their problem, and that you offer a unique solution. Being too generic as to appeal to everyone will likely leave you unsatisfied with your results. You goal in writing copy is to attract you target audience and weed out the rest. You want people that will take action, not tire kickers.

  • Create content that your audience wants and compels them to take positive action. Now that you know your customer, and believe that you have to solution to their problem, you'll need to create valuable content that highlights your unique solution and move them to take action. Ultimately your goal is to generate income, and the most effective way to do that is to provide value. Your audience needs to know you and trust you before they will commit to you. Show them what you have to offer. Create something of value that you can give your target customer just for registering on your website and opting in to your news letter. Give folks a thank you gift for joining your fan page. These "give away" items are your way of letting your customer test drive your product of service. Once you've convinced them that you offer value, you'll be one step closer to closing the sale. Remember, they might not even realize they have a problem and need your solution, but if they see value in your offering they will envision the problem and justify your solution.

  • Get face time with your target audience. Earlier we talked about knowing your target customer intimately. Now put it to work. Advertise where your audience frequents. Identify the types of websites that your target customer frequents and build a marketing campaign to target them. Get involved in online forums and discussion groups that your customer is part of. Do not waste time marketing to the entire web. Focus on the smaller groups that are most likely to fit your model customer.

  • The value of Social Media. There are numerous ways to build internet marketing campaigns. I have written several articles on the topic and provide training on specific approaches. No matter what method drives your internet marketing campaign, do not forget the value of social media marketing. There is nothing more effective than creating a positive and effective ad, video, or blog article, and having it go viral. Connect with folks in social media groups. Use Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Twitter, and any other niche site to build relationships and gain exposure. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT, get involved with every group out there and simply start spamming your ads to everyone. Every beginner makes this mistake and it is costly. The time lost through ineffective relationship busting takes twice as long to repair. Build relationships. Have conversations. Build interest and intrigue. Ask people on an individual basis if they would be interested in receiving some information from you. Establish a fan page and ask your circle of friends to "like" it. Build and maintain positive relationships.

  • Encourage feedback and referrals. Never be afraid to ask for feedback. You may not like all of it, but it will help you better understand your customer base. Also, encourage you customers and clients to refer your business to their friends and relatives. Referrals are the best advertising money can buy. There's an old saying that a satisfied customer will tell three friends, but an unhappy customer will tell ten.

There are many ways to build your Internet Marketing campaign. No matter you budget, you can successfully market your business and compete on the world stage. Choose your desired internet marketing approach and give it a chance to gain traction. One of the biggest struggles for beginners is trying to do too much at once.
